ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 19, 1943 AT FORT BENJAMIN HARRISON, INDIANA. SELECTED FOR FIELD ARTILLERY. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF GUNNER (864). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JULY 2, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH BATTERY A, 771ST FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION (A NON-DIVISIONAL UNIT), IN NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. RECEIVED GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, DRIVER AND MECHANIC BADGE, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON JANUARY 6, 1946 AT SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
