ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON SEPTEMBER 15, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE TRANSPORTATION CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEER (110). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MAY 12, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY C, 717TH RAILWAY OPERATING BATTALION. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON MAY 7, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
