ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON DECEMBER 21, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE FIELD ARTILLERY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND EVENTUALLY QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF OPERATIONS NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (814). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS DIVISION ON JANUARY 10, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH HEADQUARTERS AND HEADQUARTERS BATTERY, DIVISION ARTILLERY, 65TH INFANTRY DIVISION, IN THE RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICAL SERGEANT ON MAY 4, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
