ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JULY 21, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, 12 WEEKS MOTORS SERVICE SCHOOL AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AIRPLANE AND ENGINE MECHANIC (747). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MARCH 23, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH HEADQUARTERS BATTERY, 46TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, 5TH ‘RED DIAMOND’ INFANTRY DIVISION, IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON JUNE 28, 1946 AT THE SEPARATIONS CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN.
