ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON FEBRUARY 25, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF ANTI- AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY GUN CREWMAN. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON AUGUST 21, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH BATTERY 'C', 113TH ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY BATTALION IN THE ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON DECEMBER 8, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
