ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON NOVEMBER 12, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ADJUTANT GENERAL’S DEPARTMENT, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF CORNET OR TRUMPET BANDSMAN (433). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MAY 27, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 298TH ARMY GROUND FORCES BAND. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 27, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
