ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 19, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 5, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH SERVICE COMPANY, 33RD FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, 1ST ‘BIG RED ONE’ INFANTRY DIVISION IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN AND IN THE OCCUPATION OF GERMANY. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (GERMANY). HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON MAY 8, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
