ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 20, 1943 AT ARLINGTON, CALIFORNIA. COMPLETED BASIC INFANTRY TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RIFLEMAN (745) AND LATER AS A SQUAD LEADER (653). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON NOVEMBER 23, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH COMPANY D, 13TH INFANTRY DIVISION, 8TH ‘PATHFINDER’ INFANTRY DIVISION IN THE ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A STAFF SERGEANT ON NOVEMBER 16, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT LEONARD WOOD, MISSOURI.
