ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON SEPTEMBER 3, 1942 AT SCOTT FIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND EVENTUALLY QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RADIO REPAIRMAN (648). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JANUARY 9, 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH HEADQUARTERS BATTERY, 221ST FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, AMERICAL (INFANTRY) DIVISION IN THE GUADALCANAL, NORTHERN SOLOMON ISLANDS AND SOUTHERN PHILIPPINE ISLANDS CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON OCTOBER 28, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
