ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON DECEMBER 7, 1943. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL RECEIVING BARRACKS, SHOEMAKER, CALIFORNIA, AND SERVED ABOARD THE FAST MINESWEEPER USS HOPKINS DMS-13, RUNNING THE SHIP’S SERVICE STORES. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SEAMAN FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 6, 1945 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, SHOEMAKER, CALIFORNIA.
