ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JULY 26, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE INFANTRY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF MEDIUM TANK CREWMAN (2736). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 12, 1945 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH THE 773RD AMPHIBIOUS TRACTOR BATTALION IN THE RYUKYUS CAMPAIGN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND 1 BRONZE ARROWHEAD (AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT) AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CORPORAL ON FEBRUARY 4, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI.
