ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 17, 1943 AT FORT BENJAMIN HARRISON, INDIANA. SELECTED FOR THE FIELD ARTILLERY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT ARTILLERY CANNONEER (844), AFTER WHICH HE ATTENDED THE 8 WEEK PARACHUTE SCHOOL AT FORT BENNING, GEORGIA. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON AUGUST 17, 1945 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH BATTERY A, 51ST FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, 6TH ‘RED STAR’ INFANTRY DIVISION, ENGAGED IN THE OCCUPATION OF KOREA. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON FEBRUARY 26, 1946 AT NEWTON D. BAKER GENERAL HOSPITAL, MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
