ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE OCTOBER 17, 1940 AT EAST SAINT LOUIS, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC INFANTRY TRAINING AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON SEPTEMBER 5, 1941 BOUND FOR ASSIGNMENTS IN ICELAND AND ENGLAND. RETURNED TO THE STATES ON APRIL 7, 1944 AS A MEMBER OF COMPANY G, 10TH INFANTRY, FOR MEDICAL EVALUATION AND TREATMENT. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY AS A PRIVATE ON OCTOBER 6, 1944 AT CAMP BUTNER, NORTH CAROLINA. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
