ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 21, 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC INFANTRY TRAINING AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED BRIEFLY WITH COMPANY G, 19TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 24TH INFANTRY DIVISION, IN THE DEFENSE OF NORTHERN OAHU, HAWAII TERRITORY. RETURNED TO THE STATES ON JANUARY 1, 1943 FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT AND EVALUATION. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY AS A PRIVATE ON MARCH 3, 1943 AT O’REILLY GENERAL HOSPITAL, SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
