ENLISTED IN THE AIR CORPS AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 25, 1941 AT CHANUTE FIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND ATTENDED THE RADIO OPERATOR AND MECHANIC SERVICE SCHOOL, QUALIFYING IN THAT MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY (756). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JULY 17, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH THE 40TH MOBIL COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON IN THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. HONORABLE DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICAL SERGEANT ON SEPTEMBER 30, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
