ENLISTED IN 1943 AND ASSIGNED TO A COMBAT BATTALION OF THE NEWLY FORMED 4TH MARINE DIVISION AND DISPATCHED TO THE WESTERN PACIFIC ISLAND HOPPING CAMPAIGN. HE PARTICIPATED IN THE AMPHIBIOUS LANDINGS AT KWAJALEIN ATOLL, ROI AND NAMUR, THE NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS, TINIAN AND SAIPAN AND ULTIMATELY, THE BATTLE OF IWO JIMA. WAS AWARDED THE PURPLE HEART AS A RESULT OF INJURIES SUSTAINED AT THE BATTLE OF IWO JIMA.
