ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 26, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE INFANTRY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AUTOMATIC RIFLEMAN (746). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON DECEMBER 10, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH COMPANY G, 330TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 83RD ‘THUNDERBOLT’ INFANTRY DIVISION, IN THE ARDENNES AND RHINELAND CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON JANUARY 15, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
