ENTERED COMBAT ON FEBRUARY 12, 1945 AS A MEMBER OF COMPANY E OF THE 69TH INFANTRY DIVISION'S 273RD REGIMENT. HE CROSSED THE SIEGFRIED LINE ON MARCH 6,1945. HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE BATTLE AND CAPTURE OF LEIPZIG, GERMANY IN APRIL 1945. ELEMENTS OF HIS 273RD INFANTRY REGIMENT LINKED UP WITH THE RUSSIAN ARMY ON THE ELBE RIVER 75 MILES SOUTH OF BERLIN. HE LEFT THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS ON MARCH 2, 1946, AND WAS DISCHARGED ON MARCH 17, 1946.
