ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JULY 7, 1943 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR INFANTRY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LINEMAN (641). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S ON DECEMBER 1, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH COMPANY I, 378TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 95TH ‘VICTORY’ INFANTRY DIVISION, IN ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON JANUARY 15, 1945 AT SEPARATION CENTER; CAMP ATTERBURY, INDIANA.
