ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON MAY 18, 1942 AT SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345), AND ASSIGNED TO ANTI-TANK COMPANY, 339TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 85TH ‘CUSTER’ INFANTRY DIVISION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON DECEMBER 24, 1943 WITH HIS UNIT, BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. FOUGHT IN THE ROME-ARNO, APENNINES, AND PO VALLEY CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, DRIVER BADGE WITH CLASP, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON DECEMBER 1, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
