ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON OCTOBER 30, 1941 AT EAST SAINT LOUIS, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF COOK (060), AND ASSIGNED TO BATTERY A, 432ND ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY BATTALION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON MAY 11, 1942 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. FOUGHT IN THE TUNISIAN, NAPLES-FOGGIA, ROME-ARNO, NORTHERN APENNINES, AND PO VALLEY CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE MERITORIOUS UNIT AWARD (ATTACHED TO II CORPS), GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH SILVER BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON SEPTEMBER 18, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
