ENLISTED IN THE AIR CORPS AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON SEPTEMBER 17, 1942 AT VINCENNES, INDIANA. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AUTOMOTIVE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC (014). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON APRIL 5, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH SQUADRON A, 1260TH ARMY AIR FORCES BASE UNIT (NORTH AFRICAN DIVISION, AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND), AT EL AOUINA, TUNISIA. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT ON FEBRUARY 17, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
