Activity During WWII

Served in the Pacific on two escort carriers: Hoggatt Bay CVE-75 escorted convoy to Marshall Islands; anti-submarine patrol along the equator and West New Guinea. Ship was awarded Letter of Commendation by Secretary of the Navy; ahead of fleet on D-Day at Guam (7/16/43). Assigned to Cape Gloucester CVE-109 sent to Philippines; departed Leyte Gulf to Eastern China Sea for strikes on shipping; sent to coast of Japan to provide air cover for mine sweeps clearing way for invasion; operation concluded, sent to Buckner Bay, Okinawa; war over 8/15/45. September 15, dispatched to Nagasaki to liberate POW and transport them to Naha. Later returned to Nagasaki and Sasebo as part of Army of Occupation. Believed to be 1st Naval Officer in Japan.
