ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON DECEMBER 21, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE FIELD ARTILLERY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). ASSIGNED TO SERVICE BATTERY, 592ND FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION (EQUIPPED WITH 155MM HOWITZERS), 106TH ‘GOLDEN LION’ INFANTRY DIVISION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS UNIT, BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. FOUGHT IN THE NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON MARCH 26, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
