ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON OCTOBER 22, 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JULY 17, 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO THE 50TH ENGINEER BATTALION ENGAGED IN THE ALEUTIAN ISLANDS, EASTERN MANDATES, SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES, AND RYUKYUS CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND THE PHILIPPINES LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 28, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI.
