NAVIGATOR ON A B-17. SHOT DOWN ON 25TH MISSION OVER GERMANY. LANDED IN THE BALTIC SEA AND RESCUED BY A DANISH FISHING BOAT AND TAKEN TO CLOSEST PORT, GERMAN. HE WAS TAKEN AS A PRISONER OF WAR FOR 16 OR 18 MONTHS. LIBERATED BY RUSSIANS. HE RETIRED AS A CAPTAIN.
