Activity During WWII

Master Sergeant. Enlisted Army Air Corps 6-20-40, first volunteer from Delaware to enlist in WWII. Basic training Mitchell Field, New York. Airplane Engine Mechanic, Roosevelt Field, October 1940 to March 1941. Electrical Specialist, Chanute Field, July 1941 to September 1941. Turbo Super Charger in England, May 1944. In charge of Electrical Department, Westover Field, Massachusetts, October 1941 to December 1942. Departed U.S. for England 12-7-42. Joined 92nd Bomb Group in England 12-15-42 at Alconbury as Electrical Shop Chief of depot, relocated to Podington September 1943 as Electrical Shop Chief. Moved to Istres, France after V-E Day. Discharged 9-18-45. Received Bronze Star for designing and successfully completing many modifications and inventions for better operation of electrical equipment on B-17 aircraft. Saved hundreds of lives by being the first to discover the cause of the serious generator shaft breakage and designed the modification that corrected this malfunction. Received a Certificate of Merit and ten letters of commendation from 8th Air Force Headquarters, Headquarters 8th Air Force Service Command.
