Rank Lieutenant Junior Grade. He was inducted into the United States Navy January 31, 1942 at San Francisco, California. Following his Basic Military Training at the U.S. Naval Training Station San Diego, California; he was designated to attend the Flight Aviation Training Program. As a graduate of the Aviation Cadet program, he accepted his commission and Pilot Wings. He served as a Pilot aboard the USS Lexington “Blue-Ghost” Aircraft Carrier V (CV-16), assigned to Fighting Squadron-19. Tuesday, October 17, 1944 the Carrier and her shipmates, along with an armada of U.S. Warships, Rendezvous’ Off-Shore of Leyte Island, Philippines Location: Western Pacific Theater of Operations. The armada participated in the Battle-of-Leyte Gulf, the largest Naval Battle of World War II. The “Climactic American” Naval Victory over Japan. Saturday, October 14, 1944 he was reported Missing-in-Action or Buried at Sea, when he failed to “RTB” Return-to-Base; the Sea-Going Air Base. He and the formation were participating in the Formosa attacks “Battle-for-Formosa”. In remembrance of the brave, his name is permanently inscribed in the tablets of the missing, memorialized at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial Location: Fort Bonifacio, Manila, Philippines. In his Memory, this American Patriot received the following Decorations posthumously: Air Medal, Purple Heart. The Air Medal was awarded to the Lieutenant for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. The Purple Heart was awarded for his Heroism, and ultimate sacrifice. He served his Country with Pride and Honor.
