ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 21, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (MOS 345). ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 247TH ENGINEER COMBAT BATTALION WHICH DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JANUARY 18, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. FOUGHT IN THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON OCTOBER 24, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
