INDUCTED INTO THE ARMY AT THE AGE OF 19 AT FT. SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS, DECEMBER 22, 1942. IN APRIL WENT TO FT. BENNING, GEORGIA. BECAME PART OF THE SCHOOL TROOPS WHO TRAINED OTHER SOLDIERS FOR COMBAT. RECEIVED ORDERS TO GO OVERSEAS IN THE SUMMER OF 1944. ARRIVED IN LIVERPOOL HARBOR ON AUGUST 21, 1944. ATTACHED TO PART OF 9TH ARMY. ARRIVED OMAHA BEACH, FRANCE, OCTOBER 19, 1944 WITH GMC 6X6 TRUCK. DROVE TRUCK THROUGH FRANCE, BELGIUM AND HOLLAND. WAS IN FIRING POSITION NEAR PUFFENDORF, GERMANY BY NOVEMBER 25, 1944. ATTACHED TO THE 102ND INFANTRY DIVISION ARTILLERY DURING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. CONTINUED ONTO BERLIN AFTER THE BATTLE, SEARCHING FOR ENEMY SOLDIERS AND CONTRABAND. IN MAY, 1945 WORD CAME DOWN THE WAR WAS OVER. STAYED IN GERMANY, BELGIUM AND FRANCE UNTIL DEPARTING FOR NEW YORK HARBOR IN JANUARY OF 1946. 46,000 MILES WERE RECORDED ON THE TRUCK. HONORABLY DISCHARGED FEBRUARY 27, 1946.
