SELECTED FOR THE TRANSPORTATION CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (MOS 345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON SEPTEMBER 11, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH HEADQUARTERS, 14TH MAJOR PORT COMPANY IN THE RHINELAND CAMPAIGN. WOUNDED BY ENEMY ACTION ON OCTOBER 12, 1944 IN GERMANY. TREATED AT THE 103RD GENERAL HOSPITAL AND RETURNED TO DUTY. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON MAY 17, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN. EARNED THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
