WITH 6 MONTHS, 18 DAYS PRIOR SERVICE IN THE ENLISTED RESERVE CORPS, ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MARCH 2, 1942 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, SELECTED FOR DUTY WITH THE ORDNANCE CORPS, ATTENDED THE SHEET METAL WORKERS SERVICE SCHOOL AT STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF THAT TRADE (MOS 201). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 26, 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 3415TH ORDNANCE COMPANY, 69TH ORDNANCE BATTALION, IN THE SOUTHERN PHILIPPINE ISLANDS AND LUZON CAMPAIGNS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON DECEMBER 15, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL.
