ENLISTED IN THE REGULAR ARMY, CORPS OF ENGINEERS, AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 27, 1946 AT EAST SAINT LOUIS, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (MOS 345), AND ASSIGNED TO COMPANY A, 78TH ENGINEER COMBAT BATTALION. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON AUGUST 26, 1947 AT FORT BENNING, GEORGIA. EARNED THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL FOR SERVICE DURING THE PERIOD OF ELIGIBILITY.
