Served on front line combat. Received Bronze Star for heroic achievement in action on November 20, 1944 in the vicinity of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, France. Member of a combat patrol, he was instructed to cross an open area and prevent the withdrawal of an enemy force occupying buildings along an important supply road. Moving across the open terrain despite hostile fire from the enemy emplacement, he assumed an exposed position and opened fire. Discovered by the opposing troops, he was charged upon by four hostile soldiers armed with automatic weapons but courageously held his ground killing one of the enemy, wounding another and causing the others to flee. Entered military service from Burbank, California.
