ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 26, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE TRANSPORTATION CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RAILWAY SECTION HAND (MOS 199). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON OCTOBER 22, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY A, 712TH RAILWAY OPERATING BATTALION, IN THE ARDENNES AND RHINELAND CAMPAIGNS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON DECEMBER 14, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. EARNED THE DISTINGUISHED UNIT BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
