ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MARCH 15, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF ANTI-AIRCRAFT AUTOMATIC WEAPONS CREWMAN (MOS 601). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MARCH 7, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH BATTERY C, 487TH ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY AUTOMATIC WEAPONS BATTALION IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 7, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
