ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 7, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF CONSTRUCTION MACHINE OPERATOR (MOS 359). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MARCH 21, 1944 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY B, 821ST ENGINEER (AVIATION) BATTALION IN THE NEW GUINEA AND LUZON CAMPAIGNS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE ON DECEMBER 29, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI. EARNED THE MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION WITH 1 OAK LEAF CLUSTER, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR.
