ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 13, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR DUTY WITH THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, ATTENDED THE 12 WEEK WATER PURIFICATION SERVICE SCHOOL, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF WATER SUPPLY TECHNICIAN (MOS 727). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JULY 30, 1945 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH HEADQUARTERS AND SERVICE COMPANY, 1298TH ENGINEER COMBAT BATTALION. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A STAFF SERGEANT ON FEBRUARY 21, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
