ENLISTED FOR THE CAVALRY AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON JULY 9, 1940 AT FORT MACARTHUR, CALIFORNIA. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF HEAVY TRUCK DRIVER (MOS 931). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 6, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH TROOP C, 33RD CAVALRY RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON, IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
