Activity During WWII

SERVED AT SEA IN THE PACIFIC THEATER AND ASHORE. IN 1944 HE WAS ASSISTANT HULL REPAIR SUPERVISOR AT THE AMPHIBIOUS TRAINING SCHOOL AT CORONADO, CALIFORNIA. PROMOTED TO CHIEF CARPENTER. ON APRIL 11, 1945, RECEIVED BELATED COMMENDATION BY ADMIRAL NIMITZ FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE AT DUTCH HARBOR, ALASKA ON DECEMBER 11, 1941. A FLIGHT OF 2 PATROL PLANES ON A SCOUTING MISSION ARRIVED AT THE DUTCH HARBOR BASE. ONE WAS DISABLED BY A RUPTURED MAIN PONTOON. AS A MEMBER OF THE REPAIR PARTY, HE WENT ASHORE AND IN BELOW ZERO WEATHER AND UNDER CONSTANT THREAT OF JAPANESE ATTACK, HE WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE PLANE AFTER 5 HOURS. THE PLANE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON ITS MISSION. DECORATIONS INCLUDE: NAVY COMMENDATION MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL WITH FLEET BAR, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL AND PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE MEDAL.
