Activity During WWII

HE WAS IN THE MERCHANT MARINE AND WORKING ON THE STANDARD OIL TANKER W. L. STEED. THE TANKER WAS TORPEDOED BY A U-BOAT ON FEBRUARY 2, 1942 SENDING THE TANKER TO THE BOTTOM. HE AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CREW WERE ABLE TO SAVE THEMSELVES BY LOWERING THE LIFE BOATS. HOWEVER, THE SUB SURFACED AND SHELLED THE LIFE BOATS. HE THEN LOST HIS LIFE.
