SERVED IN THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER WITH THE 5TH MARINE DIVISION DURING THE WAR. PARTICIPATED IN COMBAT OPERATIONS AT IWO JIMA IN THE BONIN ISLANDS UNDER COMMAND OF GENERAL 'HOWLING MAD' SMITH. HIS DIVISION ASSAULTED THE BEACHES ON THE WEST END OF THE ISLAND IN THE SHADOW OF MOUNT SURIBACHI ON FEBRUARY 19, 1945. HE WITNESSED THE RAISING OF THE AMERICAN FLAG ON MOUNT SURIBACHI ON FEBRUARY 23, 1945. AWARDED THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AND ISSUED THE WWII HONORABLE DISCHARGE LAPEL PIN.
