SERVED AS A LIEUTENANT COLONEL. FLEW MILITARY MISSIONS IN NORTHERN EUROPE. HAD FLOWN MILITARY OFFICIALS TO A U.S. MILITARY BASE AT THE VILLAGE OF LONGUE-POINTE-DE-MINGAN IN QUEBEC TO ASSESS CONSTRUCTION ON AN AIRFIELD. ALLIES NEEDED THE AIRPORT AS PART OF A ROUTE USED TO SEND TROOPS, SUPPLIES, AND AIRCRAFT TO NORTHERN EUROPE. SNOW WAS FALLING WHEN THE TWO-ENGINE CATALINA DEVELOPED A LEAK AFTER TWO FAILED TAKEOFFS AND SANK INTO THE GULF.
