Enlisted on September 9, 1939. Served as Crew Chief on B-24 airplanes in Tennessee and Puerto Rico with the 146th Army Air Force Base Unit. Helped rescue a crew from a burning plane that crashed at U.S. Airfield. Received the American Defense Service Medal, the American Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Discharged on October 24, 1945.
