ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 1 SEPTEMBER 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF HEAVY TRUCK DRIVER (MOS 931). ATTENDED A SIX WEEK RADAR SCHOOL IN 1943. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 21 JANUARY 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH THE 78TH SIGNAL COMPANY, 78TH ‘LIGHTNING’ INFANTRY DIVISION IN THE RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. AFTER VICTORY IN EUROPE, PARTICIPATED IN THE OCCUPATION OF GERMANY TILL RETURN TO THE STATES ON 3 JANUARY, 1946. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE IN THE SIGNAL CORPS ON 26 JANUARY 1946 AT THE CAMP GRANT SEPARATION CENTER. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (GERMANY).
