On January 13, 1941, I reported aboard USS Barry DD-248, a WWI 4-stack destroyer which was one of 8 others who were on Neutrality Patrol. We operated from Coco Solo to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I was transferred to the 15th Naval District Headquarters to put the District Ordnance shop in commission where me and my crew would board the ships of task forces in transit of the canal and repair ordnance. Later I was plank owner of a New Cruiser, USS Dayton, which then went to the Pacific and participated in the Occupation of Japan.
