Entered Army in January 1943. Took basic training at Camp Butner, North Carolina and maneuvers in Tennessee during winter of 1943-1944. From Camp Patrick Henry in Newport News, Virginia sailed for Italy in July 1944, joined Company I, 141st Infantry, 36th Division September 1944. Was wounded in Colmar sector of France December 10, 1944.
