ENTERED MILITARY SERVICE IN MARCH 1941 AND WAS ACCEPTED INTO PILOT TRAINING AS A TUSKEGEE AIRMAN GRADUATING IN CLASS 44-C. HE SERVED IN THE 301ST FIGHTER SQUADRON IN ITALY AND IS CREDITED WITH SHOOTING DOWN A GERMAN ME-109 FIGHTER PLANE ON MARCH 16, 1945. HE EARNED THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS, THE AIR MEDAL WITH SEVEN OAK LEAF CLUSTERS AND THE DISTINGUISHED UNIT BADGE.
