IN 1942 HE JOINED THE ARMY AIR CORPS, WHERE HE SERVED IN THE 323RD BOMB GROUP OF THE 9TH AIR FORCE. HE FLEW 23 MEDIUM ALTITUDE BOMBING MISSIONS OVER GERMANY AND OCCUPIED TERRITORIES AS PILOT COMMANDER OF A B-26 BOMBER WITH CREW OF 6 MEN, WHILE EARNING THE DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS AND AIR MEDAL WITH 3 OAK LEAF CLUSTERS. HE COMPLETED HIS MILITARY SERVICE AS A CAPTAIN IN 1946.
