WORKED AS A MECHANIC FOR AMERICAN AIRLINES UNTIL THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY WAS NATIONALIZED FOR THE WAR EFFORT AND HE ENTERED MILITARY SERVICE. SERVED AS A MACHINIST'S MATE OVERSEAS IN THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN THEATER DURING THE WAR. WHILE BASED IN ENGLAND, HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE OPENING OF THE AIRPORT IN LONDON THAT WOULD BECOME KNOWN AS HEATHROW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. HE ALSO WAS INVOLVED IN OPENING OTHER AIRPORTS ACROSS EUROPE. AWARDED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED IN 1946 WITH THE RATE OF PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS AND ISSUED THE WWII HONORABLE DISCHARGE LAPEL PIN.
